Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first championship series since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.
Trailing by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's painful" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.
Toronto's team secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
