The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
