Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
