19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player claimed his first trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden title since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.
Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 various events.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.
But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.
The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.
The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
