One of Avatar: The Last Airbender's top episodes is honored with an exclusive MTG special card drop.
Typically, recap episodes are disliked by fans as a needless time filler, or perhaps tolerated as essential in television during the period of episodic releases. However, this wasn't the case, though Avatar: The Last Airbender showed it via "The Ember Island Players," a cherished installment in its last season which is now granted an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair collection.
Highlights regarding the Secret Lair
The full Secret Lair superdrop for the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set was revealed earlier this month. It features five distinct sets, and although one titled "My Cabbages!" is clearly funny homage to the show's beloved recurring figure, the additional releases appear slightly lacking creativity, except for one standout: "The Ember Island Players."
Based on the seventeenth episode from season 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this Secret Lair includes these specific cards:

The reason this installment is special
Viewers of the show clearly recall this episode, which functioned as a review of the protagonist Aang and the group's journey leading up to the conclusion. Different from typical clip shows, or "clip shows," "The Ember Island Players" did not stem due to production constraints or creative challenges. The producers truly wanted to provide audiences a chance to reflect on the show's narrative, yet they chose to execute it with flair.
During the installment, the heroes observe a stage show depicting their journeys in a theater on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The play itself is wildly exaggerated, over-the-top, and utterly comical. It works as it plays with the heroes' understanding regarding their own identities, setting them against against how the world (and especially the Fire Nation) views them. It has the perfect balance of self-awareness, and it becomes arguably the best adaptation of the show available to date.
Appeal and pricing
When it comes to cost-effectiveness, this is a great Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This particular card is valued between $20 and $40 on online marketplaces at the time of writing, and for $29.99 you can obtain the full set, or alternatively $39.99 for the foil version.
Magic's Avatar: The Last Airbender edition can be accessed during early access events beginning November 14 and releases worldwide on Nov. 21.
