England Bowling Consultant Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation
The bowler's most recent Test for New Zealand was against England in December 2024.
England bowling consultant Southee is still working through the extent of his role will be at the forthcoming Ashes contest in Australia.
The ex- Kiwi seamer is only likely to be present for the first Test because of his involvement in the International League T20 tournament, which begins on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.
The 36-year-old, 36, assumed a role as England's fast bowling consultant in the summer after taking 391 scalps in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.
Speaking as England's team for the opening of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, he stated of his availability: "We're still working through the situation at the moment.
"We'll see what happens over the coming days."
English bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which begins on 21 November.
"I don't think there's ever a poor Australian cricket team," Southee remarked.
"Our focus is firmly on our own objectives. I think the quality of [the English] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.
"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
However, prior to England travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
